i

Overhead Multiconductor Interconnec[ Cable: The cable shall be REA PE-38, figure "8" cable. All conductors
within the cable shall be 19 AWG. Shield shall be at least 0.008 inch coated aluminum tape applied
longitudinally and corrugated for flexibility.
Each conductor ahall be insulated. The insulation class for each conductor shall be rate+ at 300 volts. Each
I pair of conductors shall be twisted together at approximately hvo tums per foot. Each pair shall be color
coded consistent with IPCGA specifications. The outer jacket shall consist of black polyethylene with a
minimum thickness of 0.060 inches. The cable as noted shall include an attahed 1/4" galvanized stranded
messenger wire encapsulated into a black, low density, high molecular weight polyethylene isulation so as to
form what is know as "Figurc 8 cable."
Twisting: The insulated conductors shall be twisted into pairs.
1 Length of lay of pairs shall be staggered so that pairs having the same length shall be separated by at least
two pairs having different lengths of lay.
I To avoid danger of Ioss of identity of the hvo wires comprising a pair, the maximum length of lay of pair
twist shall not exceed 6 inches.
I Core Assembly Multi-pair Cables: The pairs shall be laid up symmetrically with lay not exceeding 15 timcs the
assembled core diameter.
Each layr.r of twisted pairs shall be laid in a direction opposite to that of adjacent layers. Unidirectional lay
Imay be used. The outer layer shall be left-hand lay.
Fillers shall be used when necessary to secure a uniform assembly of conductors or a firm, compact
cylindrical core.
i
Fillers: Fillers shall be of a non-metallic moisbire-resistant material which shall have no injurious effect upon thc
I component parts of Ihc cable.
Identification: Each shipping length of cabie in,talled on reels shall have a tape showing the name of the
manufacWrer, the shipped lengtli, and the ycar in which the cable is manufactured placed over or under the
tape covering the conductor assembly before the application of outer coverings. As an alternate method of
identification, the above information may be applied to the outer surface of the jacket with a permanent
making method.
Pootage Marking: Footage markings shall be prinred sequentially every 2 feet along lhe outer jackct.
Shielding: The shield shall consist of a single coated 3luminum tape applied longitudinally over the corc. No
Ispiral wrap will be allowed.
The aluminum shield shall completely cover the core.
The aluminum tape employed for the shield shall have 1 thickness of at least 0.08 inches of aluminum.
Where splicing of the shield tapes is necessary, the shield tape must be joined during manufacturing
processes by means of cold weld, electric weld or soldering with a non-acid Flux.
Guarantee: The manufacturer shall warrant all materials for a period of one (1) year from date of delivery to the
owner. This warranty shall mean prompt attention to the correction and/ur complete replacement of the
faulty matcrial, insulation,or workmanship in manufacture.
I Interconnect Cable Testing Criteria and Color ldeniification: The interconnect cables shall conform to the
I following specifications.
Puu»,aon/Vuoo:pcccorya..ao
David Evans and Associalcs,Ina SP-14 71h Ava SF/IOOSt Signal Modification
 June1998
