This inspection was limited to the exiting problems <br /> throughout the building and the exiting and fire access problems in the <br /> basement, with the intent of beginning a process resulting in a resolution <br /> of the life safety and Firefighting problems inherent in the structure. <br /> The followinq code provisions apply to these problems: <br /> 1. The 1988 Uniform Fire Code, Article 1, Section 1.103(b) states "The <br /> provisions of this code shall apply to existing conditions as well as to <br /> '�1 conditions arising after the adoption thereof, except that conditions <br /> legally in existence at the adoption of this code and not in strict <br /> ��� compliance therewith shall be permitted to continue only if, in the <br /> opinion of the chief, they do not constitute a distinct hazard to life or <br /> '�' property." <br /> ��� 2. The 1988 Uniform Fire Code, Article 10, Section 10.306(b), and the <br /> Uniform Buildi�g Code, Chapter 38, Section 3802, state ". .. an automatic <br /> ' sprinkler system shall be installed: 1. In every story or basement of all <br /> ' buildings whe�� the floor area exceeds 1500 square feet and there is not <br /> provided at least 20 squ�re feet of opening er�tirely above the ad,foining <br /> � ground levei in each 50 lineal feet or fraction thereof of exterior wall <br /> � in the story or basement on at least one side of the building. Openings <br /> � shall have a minimum dimension of not less than 30 inches. Such openings <br /> �� shall be accessible to the fire department from the exterior and shall <br /> � not be obstructed in a manner that fire fighting or rescue cannot be <br /> �' accomplished from the exterior. When openings in a story are provided on <br /> ' only one side and the opposite wall of such story is more than 75 feet <br /> � from such openings, the story shall be provided with an approved <br /> automatic sprinkler system, ur openings as specified above shall be <br /> ��� provided on at least two sides of an exterior wall of the story.
