Mr. Dean Pittman
Page Two
jZZy pril 5, 1976
U. M. C., Section 704. 5, and U. B. C., Sections 708 and 1108
These sections relate to heating systems or central heating plants,
such as boilers and ducted forced -air comfort heat (central) furnace systems,
not to make-up air heaters as covered in Section 1904 of the U. M. C.
1976 U. M. C. Revisions
The 1976 Uniform Mechanical Code will incorporate a revision to
Section 1904 that will remove occupancy restrictions, except for sleeping
facilities, when an approved testing agency has indicated that certain sections
of ANSI Standard Z83.4 have been met. This does not require listing, but
allows a Building Official to require sufficient test data and controls require-
ments to insure a safe installation.
These (Rupp Temp -Air) direct -fired make -up -air -heaters have been
approved by Seattle normally with an interlock between the exhaust fan motor
(relay) and the gas valve controls of the make -up -air -heater.
I hope this answers your questions relative to this and similar installa-
tions. If I can be of further service, please call me at 622-6767, Ext. 461.
Sincerely,
Tack O. Wood
Staff Engineer
Codes & Ordinances
