March 31, 2008
Mr. Paul Tessier
L&A Job No. 8A027
Page 6
maintained, and wncentrated stortnwater should not be discharged uncontrolled onto the steep
slope or anywhere within the site. Storm runofl over impervious surfaces, such as roofs and
paved driveway should be captured with underground drain line systems tied to roof downspouts
and by catch basins installed in paved driveway. Water coliected into these underground drain
lines should be tightlineJ to discharge into a nearby storm sewer. Yazd wnste and spoil soils
should not disposcd of onto the stcep slope. Exposed unpaved ground resulted from construction
activitics should be re-vegetatcd as soon as possible. If the above recommendations are
implemented and observed during and afler constructin, the crosion hazard of the site should be
minimal.
SEISMIC HAZARU AND DESICN CONSIDERATIONS
The Puget Sound region is in an active seismic zone. Thc subject site is undcrlain at shallow
depth by densc sand and hard silt soils of high shear strength. There is a lack of continuous,
extensive groundwatcr table at shallow depth under the site. Thc combination oC the above
should makc it rathcr unlikcly for scismic hauuds, such as liqucfaction or soil lateral sprcading,
to occur on the site during strong earlhyuakcs. "Cherefore, the seismic hazard for the si►e should
bc minimal. 7'hc proposed additions and ncw garage should, however, be designed to withstand
scismic forces induced by strong earthquakes. Based on the soil conditions encountered by the
test pits, it is our opinion that Scismic Use Gtoup 1 and Site Class D should be used in the
seismic dcsign of lhe proposed residences in accordance with the 2003 International Building
Codc (IBC).
SITF. PREI'ARATION ANll GENERAL GRADING
Sitc prcparation should includc cicaring and grubbing within construction limits of the additions
and ncw garaga Surticial topsoil and wcak soils in thc root zonc should bc stripped down to
LlU & ASSOCIATES, [NC.
- ;,
