stre srebt►try
Our geologic reconnaissance of the site included visual observauons of the
surface conditions and the surrounding area. In general,tMe site appears te be
stable with no evidence of recent soil movement or deep-seated sliding. 'Ihe
vegetation in the area also gives no indication of past instability.
One sign of focmcr instability in the arca is located to the north of the site on
the face of the lower slope. On a small section of the slope a surface failure
has taken place. It appears the topsoil became samrated and the vegetation
was displaced on the slope.
It is our opinion that the site is relatively stable in its prcsent condition. The
risk of damage to the existing suuctures or to adjacent properties from soil
instability during and following constructian will be minimal, subject to the
conditions set forth in this eeport, and the proposed constnction will not
increase the potential for soil movement.
Recommendatlons
The project will include the excavation of the basement level parking, whicn will
extend to a depth of approximately 10 feet below the elevation of the street. Due
to the conditions found at that depth and the proximity of the condominium to the
top of the slope,we recommend that the westem portion of the foundation of the
condominium be suppocted on drilled piers. The remainder of the foundation may
be supported upon conventional spread footings.
Slte Preparatlon
Upon removal of the existing residences, it is our understanding that the
anticipated earthwork will consist of excavating to the basement elevation,
approximately 10 feet belaw the elevation of the sidewalk and approximately
10 feet west.
Building Areas
In general, the vegetated areas within the building pad should be stripped
prior to the placement of foundations or swctural fdl. The topsoil and
vegetation should be removed from the site or stockpiled and used in
landscaped areas, if needed. [t is anticipated that the topsoil depth will be
six inches.

From the review of the site plan provided, there will be a wt along the
eastem f,uilding line which will extend to a depth of eight to 10 feet below
the existing grade. Upon completion of the excavation for the lower level,
it is anticipated that the sti(f silts and dense sands will be exposed. This
surface should not require any funher preparation prior to the placement
ofhe footings, unless precipitation during the excavation dismrbs the
 l
PoR Gardner Conominiums•CaeofeMnical Report Paye 4
