For the passive soil
, pressure and the friction resistance to be fully effective, tha
footings (or base slabs) and the on-grade slab should be poured on
undisturbed subgrade or compacted structural fill, while the walls
s should be poured against undisturbed cut or backfilled with
compacted structural fill. A passive soil pressure of 450 pcf
(F.S. = 1.0) equivalent fluid weight and a coefficient of friction
of 0.50 (F. S. = 1.0) may be used. The walls should be designed to
have a factor of safety of no less than 1.5 against sliding and
; overturning failures.
'° 8oldir Pile 8horiaq Nall
A soldier pile shorinq wall can be used to provide temporary
support for the additional cut into the hillside for the west wall,
and with a concrete facing can function as a permanent wall. For
this system, soldier piles spaced at 6 to 8 feet on centers are
first installed behind the line of the west wall by setting steel
beams in drilled holes and grouted in-place with concrete. After
the soldier piles are all in-place, the additional cut can then be
carried out in front of the soldier piles. Judginq from the dense
and cemented nature of the soils at the site, we believe temporary
is lagging between piles will not be required. Anchor studs can be
welded onto the steel beams to provide connection between the
' concrete facing and the soldier piles. The concrete facing can be
" shotcreted or poured in place.
„ Due the poor access, a portable drill rig will have to be used for
drilling the soldier pile holes. Otherwise, a berm has to be built
in front of the existinq west bank to support a mobile drill rig.
.
9
r}
q
The same lateral soil pressures recommended for Conventional
Reinforced Concrete Wall in the above section should be used for
Geo Consultanta Inc.
