A shallow, temporary ditch should be
provided above the excavation to divert surface runoff on the
hillside away from the construction area.
I!
Water should not be allowed to stand in any area where footir.gs,
,, slab, or pavement is to be constructed. The finish ground of the
site should be graded such that surface water is directed off the
garage addition. Final site grades should allow for drainage away
from the building. A concrete-lined swale should be placed behind
the garaqe walls to intercept and drain surface water into a
permanent storm drain.
„ oroundMater Drainaqe
The qarage walls consisting of conventiona]. reinforced concrete
' wall poured against undisturbed cut banks or the soldier pile
shoring wall with a permanent concrete facing should have a
; vertical drainage mat, such as Mirafi 6000 or equal, placed between
, the cut banks and the concrete walls or concrete facing to drain
groundwater seepage that may be trapped behind the walls. The
!° vertical drain mat should be connected to a subdrain at the base of
'' the walls.
!!
i
;i
!A
The subdrain system should be installed around the perimeter of the
garage. The drain line should consist of a minimum four-inch,
perforated or slotted, rigid, drain pipe laid at or just below the
base slab (or footing) of the walls with a gradient sufficient to
generate flow. A typical subdrain detail is shown on Plate 6. The
drain line should be embedded on, surrounded by, and covered with
Geo Consultanta Znc.
