Rock shall be fr+x of soft, weathercd matenal and sams of soft rock suscepable ro <br />deoerioration. . <br />Pafocated drain pipe shall be oonugated high density polyethylene smooth intaior pipe. <br />No. 2 Coazse Aggregate shall oonform to Secaon 9-03.1(3)C of the WSDOT/APWA Standazd <br />Specifications and to Section 3-20.9 of these Specifications. <br />Concrete for Rocicay Cap sha11 be Class 3000. Iamp black coloring a�ent W match the color of the <br />roclovy shall be added to the cema►t concrete during mwng in an amount not ro acceed 1-1/2 pounds per <br />cubic yard of wncrete. <br />Quarry Rock shall be as specified in Secdon 3-20.7 of these Specifica6ons <br />3-15.3 GENERAL <br />Surfacxs reawnably acc�ssible to pedatrians above and adjaant to rockeries ovu 30 inches in height <br />shall beprotectcd by a guardwil conforming to Sxdon 1712 of the Uniform Building Code and to <br />Section 3-16 of these Specificxdons. <br />Use of ecology blocks msy be approvad on a case by case basis. All ecology block walls shall be <br />designed by a structural engineer Lca►sed in the State of Washington. <br />A Public Worlcs �eermit is requircd for all rock walls within the public right-of-way and for all ;hose <br />rm <br />ezceeding 4 fat in height on private properry. <br />3-15.4 CONSTRUCTION REnUIREMENTS <br />The first course of rock should be plaxd on firm unyidding soil. Thae should be full contact betwaa► <br />the rock and soil, which may requuest�p�ng of the ground surfacx or slamming or dropping the iocla <br />inw place so that the soil foundaaon conforms to the rock faa bearing on iG <br />As the roclaery is cnnstructed, the rocks should be placed so that there are no continuous joint planes in <br />ad�a the vertical or later�l direcdon. Each rock should bar on at least two rocks below it. Rocics <br />should be placed so that thecs is wme beacing betwan flat rock faas cather than on joints. Joints <br />between courses should sl downward towards the matesial bein6 Protected (away from the fux of the <br />iocloecy). Voids in the roc�faa shall not be grater than SO square inches for rocks ovar 3 fat high <br />and 36 square inches unda 3 high. The maximum thnough vrnd area will be 15 square inches ova 3 <br />fat high and 10 square inches under 3 faet high. Any large vrnds existin� betwan each course of rock <br />as it is placed shall be filled by wad�in� smaller rock of the same qualiry u►to the voids in the back side <br />of the rockery. Bacldll maxnal sha11 not be allowed to spill fresly between the voids in the rocloay. <br />The rockery shall be bacldilled in unifonn layers as consuuction procxeds. <br />Bacldill materials shall be Quarry Rack per Secdon 3-20.7 of these Specifications. No. 2 Coarse <br />Aggregate per Section 9-03.1(3)C of the Standard SpecificaGons and Sxtion 3-20.9 of these <br />Spxificuions shall be used around the perfotated drain pipe behind the rockery wall per Standard <br />Drawing No. 324. <br />STANDARDS 3-14 <br />
