Geotechnical Engineering Evaluation
Fox Residence Underpinning and Retaining Wall Design
Evcrett, Washington
INTRODUCTION
This report presents the results of our geotechnical engineering investigation and evaluation of the Fox
Residence in Everett, Washington. The property is located at 4626 Harbor Lane, as shown on the
Vicinity Map in Figure 1. The purpose of this study is to explore and characterize the site's surface and
subsurface conditions, and to provide gcotechnical recommendations for stabilizing the garage
foundations and retaining wall installation.
The property is occupied by a single-family residence located within the southern portion of the property
Clacking has been observed in the garage foundation walls on the northcm and western sides of the
garage, along with severe settlement and cracking of a concrete walkway that abuts the garage on those
sides. You rela,ae4 w to evaluate the potential reasons for the obse-ed distress, and provide measures
for mitigating the on -going issues. The site layout is shown on the Site Plan in Figure 2.
SCOPE
The purpose of this study is to explore and characterize the site surface and subsurface conditions, and
provide general recommendations for site improvements. Specifically, our scope of services includes the
following:
i. Review available soil and geologic maps of the area.
2. Explore the subsurface conditions within the garage and garage vicinity using hand -auger
tools.
3. Core up to three locations within the garage slab and walkway to facilitate access for the
hand explorations. Coring was subcontracted by NGA.
4. Provide reconmtendations for pennanently stabilizing the garage foundation and slab.
5. Provide recommendations for stabilizing and/or repairing the walkway and retaining the
unstable fill.
6. Provide recommendations for site drainage and erosion control, as needed.
7. Summarize our explorations and recommendations in a written geoteclmical engineering
report.
NELSON GEOTECHNICAL ASSOCIATES, INC.
