3. The elevation should be dimension the smooth, cleanable, nonabsorbent and <br />noncombustible material, shown on the drawings. This wall covering should be noted to <br />extend 18 inches in all directions from the hood to the full height of the hood canopy, per <br />the exception to IMC section 507.9. <br />4. The inside lower edges of the Type I commercial hoods should be dimensioned on the <br />drawings to extend minimum 6 inches beyond the edge of the top horizontal surface of <br />the appliance on all open sides, unless the hood is closed to the appliance side by a <br />noncombustible wall or panel meeting the requirements of the exception to IMC section <br />507.9, specifically on the hood returns adjacent to wall construction: <br />5. The exterior exhaust fan(s) should be shown in section on the drawings to have an <br />approved drain outlet at the lowest point of the housing to permit drainage of grease to <br />an approved grease reservoir, per iMC section 506.5.2. This detail should be referenced <br />on the sections on sheets M5 and M6. <br />a. Please clarify on the drawings in a detail the exhaust fan(s) hinges and flexible <br />weatherproof electrical cable (or other method of access) to permit inspection and <br />cleaning, per IMC 506.5.3. <br />b. The exhaust should be dimensioned a minimum of ten feet away from the make-up <br />air source on the roof plan or section. <br />6. Where cleanout openings are located in ducts within a fire-resistance rated enclosure, <br />one-hour fire-resistant access openings and signage ("ACCESS PANEL. DO NOT <br />OBSTRUCT.") should be shown on the drawings, per IMC sections 506.3.8 and 506.3.11, <br />in all of the required locations, to include: <br />a. Grease duct horizontal cleanouts should be shown on the drawings spaced not more <br />than 20 feet apart, per IMC section 500.3.9.1. <br />b. A cleanout should be shown on the drawings for both the inlet side and outlet side <br />of an in-line fan within 3 feet of the fan duct connection, per IMC section 506.3.8.2. <br />7. The following should be noted on the drawings: <br />a. Duct materials and thicknesses, per IMC section 506.3.1. <br />b. Grease duct leakage test coordinated with the schedule of the city inspector on-site <br />such that the instal�ation can be reviewed with the light test prior to use or <br />concealment, per IMC 506.3.2.5. <br />c. Grease duct support materials and attachments, per IMC section 506.3.3. <br />Applicable codes include: 2012 International Building Code (IBC), the 2012 International Fire <br />Code (IFC), the 2012 International Mechanical Code (IMC), the 2009 Washington State Energy <br />Code (WSEC), and the Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities A117.1-2009 (ICC/ANSI) <br />adopted by the State of Washington, as amended by the City of Everett Municipal Code (EMC). <br />These comments address building issues only.
