CASCADE GEOTECHNICAL INC.
June 2, 1994 Job No. 9405.02G
of soil instability which might adversely impact the project.
The geologic map shows the geology of the site as consisting of glacial till of the Vashon Drift
(Qvt). Some of the test holes conducted during our investigation showed soils which correspond
with the published descriptions of both weathered and unweathered horizons of this soil unit.
5.0 LABORATORY TESTING
In order to better assess the suitability of some of the on -site soils for reuse as structural fill for
the proposed project, grain size distribution analyses and moisture content tests were performed
on samples of the on -site native sandy silt (ML) and silty sand (SM). The grain size distribution
analyses were performed in accordance with procedures outlined in ASTM D 422 and ASTM
D 1140.
The grain size distribution analyses were conducted on samples from DCPT/MSS #3 and
DCPT/MSS #5, each obtained from a depth of four (4) feet. The results of the laboratory
testing are presented in Appendix C.
6.0 ANALYSIS METHODOLOGY
6.1 Pavement Design
Expected traffic loading values for the project's truck driveway and parking areas are not
available to us at this time. For preliminary pavement design purposes, we have used design
ESAL's (Equivalent Single Axle Loads) obtained by assuming the following:
• Light passenger vehicle traffic will occupy the passenger parking areas.
• Thirty-six (36) loaded tractor/trailer vehicles will each make one (1), two-way trip in
out of the project site per day.
7
