S..' i:
•;`
We have reviewed the deficiencies noted in the Cascade Field Reports that you ,
menticned in your letter dated August 10, 1981. The following is our response
to the items that we can help with. The numbering corresponds to your letter's
numbered items. -
1. Other than Cascade's Field Reports, we have no way of verifying whether the
Yeinforcing in the uninspected panels and pilas[ers mentioned in the reports
is placed=correcEly.--'Phe relor[s indicate that mos[ wall pane s were place
'correctly and, in at least one case, the pilasters seemed to be placed
properly when viewed from the top of the form. 'Phe lower level pilasters ,
on Grid 7 are presently carrying the major portion of the load which they
will Ue required to carry. If there_are no visible signs of distress, they
may Ue satisFactory if it can Ue verified by someone that somie of the other
-- --- -- - _..
pilasters were built correc[ly.
2. Concrete strength, when.waeer was added to the.panels, cannot be _
evaluated by us. Possibly in-place testing can be employed to satisfy_ ..
stregth requirements. The s1aU_dowels,in_the_6"__thick_panel section
which were placed vithout hooks are, in this case, relatively unimportant
anii are approve as_straight bars.
3. Concrete proUleros tha[ may have arisen from 2 hour old concrete or re-
viUra[ion cannot be evaluated Uy us. .
4. a) Report No. 34467 stated that U9 and f18 bars werc placed on opposite
sides as required Uy the drawings. The area mentioned (cacsterly
10 feet of wall footing st:irtinS at Srid lines 7 and M") should lave
had (3) GS on each face, so we question whceher the report is,correct
in i[s comment. We will need this to be clarified before we can
address this problem.
b) Gene Hunter stated that the footings in question (Grid 8, II-M) were
5'-6" sq. and contained (8) il4 :C 4-O E.W. and not the (6) If4 as
stated. We huve checked this footing and find it to be satisfactory.
901 Teririnal Sales Buiiding • Seattie, Wasiiing[on 9810 • Tel. (206) 622-9296
