Evere[t Iiuilding Depart. .it
Page Two
Augnst 12, 1981
• .
c) , We have submitted a revised detail (SK-1) which is'an approved
alternate to the cast-in-place joint. This welded connection '
detail is being used on the wall panels on Grid 13. This detail
- meets our requiremenis provided a new detail (SK-2, which is -',
enclosed) is used at Che top of the panel. This detail replaces
[he (4) U6 chord tie bars which were left out of the panels. '!`
5. We cannot evaluate [he effect of the "consolidation of concrete by
hand mallet".
6, The wall panels that have been cut are as follows (per Gene 2lunter
r10-81):
a Panel U31 (Crid N, 6-7): 2" (2'-0" long) wa removed to allow
the panel to sit on the £ooting at Grid 7. This has no effect
on the strength of the panel and is satisfactory.
b) Panel 039 (Grid 1, L.5-M): this panel was barely chipped at one
end to level panel onto footing. This has no adverse effect.
c) Panels i165, G6, G7 (Grid 7, A.3-B.3): 2'-0" x 2'-0" block-outs
were fiormed on the wrong side for the step tootings. 2'-0" x
2'-0" ooenins were [hen cut on the correct side and the block-
out vas cast with the pilaster. The walls presently are carrying
the major portion of their design load. If tliere is no distzess
showing at the present time tlie panels will be satisfactnry if the
• exterior grade is immediately placed and compacted [o the elevation
618.0' which is shown on A--L
7. See Item 14c.
8. The welclin that has been done to date has Ueen of minor importance.
The cas[-in-place panel joint welding is really or convenience un
docs not carry any load. Tiie (2) IFS cliord tie between panels also
carries no load because the laceral resistance for seismic anci wind
force oP the Level 1 building is provided by purlin struts back to
Che retaining wull system on Cr:d 7. Since these welds essentially
carry no load, we will approve tle uninspected welds that have been
done. All future welding;tnust be inspected and Ue accomplished by a
W.A.II.O. Cer[ified ldelders.
9. Contact Soils Enginecr for soils related inforniation.
10. We have sludied and approved the chanre of the wall. pnnels from 6" to
5-1 2" A 5-1/2" panel mects our sCrucCural requirements. This
change is reElected in the drawings revised 3-4-81.
_.., . . . . .._..,'-°" . . .• L.{.y.
K, I::1 l :._ _._`!>_" __ ,. _-...._ _._.. _... . _
L
