• i <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 5156 <br /> A RESOLUTION supporting the redesign and reconfiguration <br /> of the Special Events Center and authorizing up to Six Million <br /> Dollars for certain design changes <br /> WHEREAS, on December 12, 2001, the City Council held a public hearing concerning <br /> the application for waiver of Certificate of Appropriateness for the Moffat Building and <br /> Stovies Stove Shop Building to allow for the demolition of those building for the <br /> development and construction of the Everett Special Events Center; and <br /> WHEREAS, at the December 12, 2001, public hearing, the City Council heard the <br /> recommendation of the Historical Commission and the recommendation of the Public <br /> Facilities District; and <br /> WHEREAS, through the adoption of Resolution No. 5133, the City Council granted the <br /> Waivers of the Certificate of Appropriateness subject to reasonable mitigation including, <br /> in part, the following: <br /> Relocating the support building for the community ice rink from <br /> the south side to the north side of the community ice rink and <br /> finishing the façade of the support building in brick continuing the <br /> design and use of the historic brick character proposed for the <br /> Hewitt Avenue façade of the Special Events Center; and <br /> Final design of the brickwork on Hewitt Avenue will reflect the <br /> historic use and design of brick and mortar work on Hewitt <br /> Avenue. <br /> It is recommended that the support building to the community ice <br /> rink be constructed in such a manner as to provide an opportunity <br /> for the provision of public space on an upper level of that building; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, since the December 12 public hearing,the City Council has appointed a <br /> liaison committee of three Council members to work with the Pubic Facilities District on <br /> incorporating the mitigation measures related to the façade and pubic space; and <br /> WHEREAS, a new design has been presented to the City Council by the Public Facilities <br /> District incorporating changes to the façade and the provision of public space in <br /> accordance with Resolution No. 5133; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council supports the concept of public exhibition space being <br /> incorporated into the design of the Special Events Center and concludes that such space <br />
