The existing
house on the site to be demolished should also have their foundations completely mmoved.
Surficial topsoil and loose wcathered soils should be stripped down to very-dense fresh till soils
within the drivcway, building pad, and in arcas where structural fill is to be placed. The exposed
soils after stripping should be compacted to a non-yielding state with a vibratory roller compactor
and proof-rolled with a fidly loaded dump truck or water truck. During construction, one or
multiple lines of interceptor trench drains should be installed along the uphill side of the site, as
requimd, to intercept ar -irain away surfacc runoff and near-surface groundwater seepage to
facilitate grading and foundaion canstruction work. Water collected in such interceptor trench
drains should be conveyed into a nearby street side storm inlet. The storm inlet should be
covered with a filter sock to prevent sediment from entering the stortn sewer system. The filter
sock should be cicancd periodically o pmvent it from clogging.
The on-site surficial soils conlain a high perecntage of fines and are sensitive to moisture. A
laycr of clean quarry spalls should be plced, as rcquimd, over excavated areas and areas of
Gequent traf7ic to protect the subgrade soils from disturbancc by construction traffic. Silt fences
should bc erected along the downslope boundaries of the site to prevent sediment from being
transportcd by storm runoll'onto adjoining propertics, the street or the adjacent steep slope. The
bottom of silt fence filtcr labric should be anchored in a trench filled with gravel.
Excavation Slopes
Under no circumstance should excavation slopes be greater than the limits spcified by local,
state and federal safety regulations if workers have to perfortn construction work in excavated
LIU & ASSOCIATES, INC.
