. .
April 23, 2007
Mr. Scott Anderson
L&A Job No. 6A 126
Page 13
7'he subject site is underlain by very-dense and stable fresh till soils of very-high shear strength
and high resistance against erosion. 7'hcrefore, geological restraints of the site which may impact
the stability of the adjacent steep slope are eithcr nun-existent or can bc minimized to an
accepable Icvcl of risk if thc recommendations in this report are fully implemented and
observed. The vegetation cover or thc steep slope should be preserved and not to be disturbed.
Site grading, grading of the driveway, and building footprint excavation fot the development of
the duplex building will bc achieved with comentional earihwork equipment. If the
rccommendations in this report arc followed during grading work, the construction method and
technique should have little impact on the stability of thc adjacent stecp slope. Sincc thc
drivews; and utility lines will approach the duplex building from the street side away from the
adjacer.t stecp slope, driveway construction and utility installation should also have minimal
impact on thc stabiliqof thc adjaccnt stccp slop.
"I'u maintain thc stability of the adjaccnt steep slope, thc dtiplex building to br: constructed on thc
site should bc sufficiently setback Gom the crest of the slopc of gradient 40% or more. Based on
the above, it is our recommendation that the building should bc set back at Ieast IS feet from the
top of adjacent stecp slope. Also, thc footing foundations of the building should be embedded at
Icast 12 inches into the underlying, very-dense, fresh till soils.
RISK EVALUATION STATEMENT
7he site is underlain at shallow dcpth by vcry-dense fresh till soils. Thesc soils are of high shear
strcnth in thcir undisturbed native slate and have ccellent resistance against slope failures.
Proper erosion and drainage control is kcy to maintain site stability. It is our judgment that
providcd the rccommcndations in this report arc fully implcmented and observed during
construction, the arcas disturbcd by construction activitics will bc stabilized and remain stable
LIU & ASSOCIATES, INC.
