part of Everett's history but also the loss of a distinct residential neighborhood with many
affordable homes.
Quality of life. All these concerns add up to an unbearable change to the quality of life
that all of the residents in the neighborhood have worked so hard for.
The hospital states that they can't start building in a new area because it would cost them
too much money to start over. However, with their next breath they sound like a spoiled
child, threatening to take their business elsewhere if they don't get what they want now.
Doesn't that make the first statement a lie?
The hospital also states that the Rite Aid and surrounding property isn't big enough. I
believe it's as big or bigger than the footprint they're after in our neighborhood and if not
it could be made to work by building up instead of out. Since their expansion plan calls
for phases to span the next 10 years there's no reason each phase can't be built on their
Broadway property over time. Their excuse that the Cancer Center needs to be next to
the hospital just isn't true. It's my understanding that the plan for the cancer center is that
it will be a freestanding all-inclusive unit, eliminating the need for frequent trips to and
from the hospital building. Their couriers could handle the transporting of supplies or
occasional specimens. If the still insist on putting their cancer center on the Wetmore site
they can still avoid tearing down a whole block of historical homes by temporarily using
the property they own on the comer of 12« between Colby & Hoyt for their staging area
and insist that staff use the park and ride option from the Broadway property. The easiest
way to enforce that is for the city to make surrounding streets "permit parking only."
In closing I ask that you remember the comprehensive plan has always stated that you,
the city leaders, "Protect from further encroachment the residential neighborhoods
adjoining the areas where these medical related land uses are located." I also ask that
before any decision is made, you insist that the hospital do further research on their
options. `
Sincerely,
Judy Bryant
1327 Oakes Ave.
Everett, WA 98201
