January 24, 2005
Planning Commission
Department of Planning and Community Development
City of Everett
2930 Wetmore Avenue, Suite 8-A
Everett, WA 98201
To Whom It May Concern:
As a resident of the Donovan District, I am writing to express serious concern over the
Providence Everett Medical Center's proposed action to demolish a block of Donovan homes to
expand the hospital campus.
Expansion is a natural occurrence in a city's lifetime. Population growth warrants expansion of
the local hospital system. I understand the need for growth and expansion, however, I also
understand that the hospital owns property on Broadway, where the proposed expansion could
take place. This main reason is I fail to comprehend the hospital's desire to destroy a
valuable portion of the community, when logical and practical resources are available
elsewhere.
I live directly across the street from homes that are the subject of this decision. Tearing these
homes down will severely impact the character of the neighborhood in which I purchased my
home, by increasing traffic, noise, and congestion, and decreasing that old -neighborhood charm,
sought after by family after family moving into the area.
This area is clearly a non-commercial area. The streets are not designed for a constant flow of
traffic (whereas the hospital's property on Broadway is ready-made for this type of traffic).
As a concerned citizen, I urge you to direct the hospital's expansion plans elsewhere, away
from this particular block of Donovan homes. I am concerned not only with the hospital's
plans to tear down this proposed block, but I am also HIGHLY concerned about what would
happen next. Will my block be the next target? Will I be pushed from my home? Where do the
hospital's expansion plans for the Colby Campus end? When will they realize that this
neighborhood is not suitable for the type of expansion they desire?
SinceoStothers
Stine
1305 Oakes Avenue
Everett, WA 98201
(425) 339-0979
