January 24, 2005
Planning Commission
Department of Planning and Community Development
City of Everett
2930 Wetmore Avenue, Suite 8-A
Everett, WA 98201
To Whom It May Concern:
CITY P i On n E nn RE M'
As a resident of the Donovan District, I am writing to express serious concern over the
Providence Everett Medical Center's proposed action to demolish a block of Donovan homes to
expand the hospital campus.
My main concern stems from the very real possibility that property values will be adversely
affected by the hospital's expansion plans:
Will my home maintain an adequate resale value to warrant the work that my wife and I
have put into restoring the home?
I am aware that the neighborhood was designated as a historical neighborhood. How is
the hospital able to destroy homes that have supposedly been "protected" by this
classification?
Will the home be easily sellable — with a hospital or parking lot across the street — should
my wife and I decide to relocate?
Furthermore, the next logical question that stems from the hospital's desire to expand in the
direction of my own home is: "WILL MY HOUSE GO NEXT?" What — if any — are the City's
plans to protect the remaining homes from expansion efforts?
Sincerely,
1
Samuel Stothers
1305 Oakes Avenue
Everett, WA 98201
(425) 339-0979
•
