Will they continue to purchase homes in the area until all of the homes around the
Hospital are gone? My educated guess (based on experience) is yes! The Donovan
District and a part of history will be gone forever!
If The Donovan Neighbors had the money and resources to hire consultants we would
have an equal battle. As it is, we have to fight with our commitment for sense of
community, the desire to preserve a historical neighborhood (a significant part of
Everett's history and a commitment to convince the Planning Commission and The City
of Everett that the proposed expansion by PEMC simply isn't right or good for the City
of Everett.
I urge you to drive, or better yet walk around The Donovan District. Visualize the
Surface Parking Lot. Now visualize an 8 or 15 story building on that block. Then
visualize your house across the street. It's not a pretty picture, is it?
Notice the narrow streets and how many parked cars there are, notice the traffic on 13th
and 14th. Now, visualize three times as many cars. It's not a pretty site, is it?
Now visualize PEMC relocating some of their facilities to the large expanse of property
they own on North Broadway. Commercial development is where it should be, in a
commercial area and an established, historical neighborhood will be saved and enjoyed
by future generations.
Please take your time and evaluate the proposed plan by PEMC. It's not the best plan for
The Donovan District or the City of Everett.
Sincerely,
Ruth Hopkins
