I do not object to an expansion of Providence Everett Medical
Center (PEMC). I do not object to PEMC building a new Cancer Center or wanting to
expand their services. What I do object to is their tunnel vision, focused on one course of
action. The only plan they are willing to look at is one that will destroy The Donovan
District, a charming, historical neighborhood within the city.
Please do not rush to a decision in favor of PEMC and rubber stamp this plan just
because it may be "politically correct". There are valid concerns that need to be looked at
and analyzed by someone not hired by the Hospital. I urge you to look at the facts, not
what out-of-state consultants and planners have advised in favor of PEMC.
PEMC has options. They own property on North Broadway where Rite-Aid is located.
What a perfect place for the Hospital to expand and grow. The access is much better, it's
already a commercial area and The Donovan District would be spared. The Hospital
needs help from the Planning Commission and City of Everett to explore all of their
options (and they have many options).
If this proposed plan goes through and PEMC is allowed to destroy the block of Donovan
Homes the result will be increased traffic, increased noise, water runoff, lack of sunlight
(due to an 8 or 15 story building), decrease in property values, displaced families not to
mention a major decrease in the quality of life for the neighbors living around PEMC.
My husband and I have lived in our Donovan Home for 20 years. We know how the
Hospital works. In 20 years they have destroyed 3 blocks of homes due to expansion. If
they get their way and take the 0 block what's next?
