Rite Aid/Broadway Property
Greenfield approach. Expanding on the Rite Aid property represents a
"Greenfield" approach. If Providence Everett must adopt a Greenfield approach,
the hospital has identified better site alternatives that would be quicker, easier and
less costly than building on the Rite Aid/Broadway property.
Property Acquisition. Providence doesn't own enough property at the Rite
Aid/Broadway site. Even if the hospital were to pursue this option, there is no
guarantee the hospital could eventually purchase all the property required to
develop a 500 -bed medical center. If Providence Everett must adopt a Greenfield
approach, the hospital would identify site alternatives with a minimum of 40 acres
of contiguous property.
Cost. Expanding onto the Rite Aid property would significantly increase the cost to
purchase several properties required to support a 500 -bed medical center.
Summary
Providence Everett Medical Center has cared for the health care needs our community
for 100 years. Enhancing these services in a rapidly growing Snohomish County
mandates that the hospital modernize and expand if it is to fulfill this mission for the
next 100 years. The hospital's Master Site Plan, developed over three years of careful
study, is the roadmap to ensuring that Providence grows in ways that are compatible
with the needs of patients, staff and community.
In an effort to cooperate with its neighbors and the City, Providence has looked at
various suggestions on how to grow, but it has only reaffirmed that current plans are
well founded and necessary. Future expansion must occur in such a manner that new
phases lie adjacent to existing services and infrastructure. New additions, if not
placed in a logical configuration will disturb service delivery patterns. It is the goal
of the hospital's master plan to improve, not disrupt health services. After a thorough
analysis, the only affordable and efficient option for expansion is on the Colby
Campus.
Project Narrative
Providence Everett Medical Center
PAGE
