When this tournament was held in Everett in 2004 there were 168 teams with
12-16 players per team along with family members, coaches, etc. We estimate that 4,200 people attended the
event and we were able to confirm 8,710 room nights realized from the tournament. The economic impact
was $3,196,200.
For 2006,between 175 and 200 teams are estimated. This number of teams will generate between 4,275
and 5,000 people in attendance. Using the same mix of local and out of town teams as the 2004 tournament,
the Snohomish County Tourism Bureau estimates the economic impact this year to be between$3,542,667
and $4,042,255. This tournament is a great economic engine and a perfect family event to showcase our city
and generate subsequent tourism.
Because the NSA and Snohomish County hotel/motel funds cover ball field use and maintenance for this
tournament, the tournament is revenue neutral to the City.
RECOMMENDATION (Exact action requested of Council): Authorize the Mayor to sign the contract with
the National Softball Association to be one of the host cities for the Girls Fastpitch World Series Tournament
July 17-21, 2006.
7
