G ES Geotechnical & Environmental Services, Inc.
P.O. Eo. 1031 Everett. WA96206 (206) 6S8 964
June 11,1993 93-06-10
Mr. Dennis Watcher
Classic Home Builders
P.O. Box 476
Lake Stevens, Washington 98258
Subject: Confirmation of Bearing Soil
Comer Lot - Olive St. & Temple Drive
Everett, Washington
Dear Dennis;
As requested an engineering geologist from GES, Inc. visited the above referenced site
June 4,7,8,10 and 11, 1993 to confirm bearing soil for foundation support. During these
visits we advised you on the suitability of the exposed soil for foundation support. We
reviewed the supplied Geotechnical Reports by David Nelson and Associates dated July
and October 1990 and the foundation drawings for the house plans as drawn by Thom
Nau. nan Design.
The final site inspection was completed on June 11, 1993. Footing forms and rebar had
been placed over most of the site at the time of our inspection. Observed bearing soil
consisted of interbedded tan to red brown, silty sand to sandy sill of the Whidbey
Formation as called out in the above referenced gemcchnical report by David Nelson and
Assoc. These soil are suitable for a maximum safe bearing load of 2000 psf.
The bearing soil is moisture sensitive. Seepage's were noted out of the base of the
excavation cuts along the western slope. In several locations, the bearing soil was over
excavated 12" to 16" below the footing elevation and replace with 2" to 4" crushed rock
to help drain the soil below the footings and to provide drainage pathways for the seepage.
We recommended that the foundation contractor remove any exposed moisture disturbed
soil from below the footings. These soil should be mucked out down to undisturbed soil
just prior to pouring the foundation. Under our direction, the eastern footing line was
over excavated to depths ranging 11— -m four (4) to six (6) feet below the established floor
grades. This area was over excavated to reach bearing soil and to allow the transfer of
bearing loads to the soil without loading the adjacent rockery. Drainage was provided out
("Urintrnf.
