. _ .
JN 92276
Sierra Construction Services, Inc. pege 2
July 1 . 1992
the site. Much of the area surrounding these buildings Mas
covered with asphalt and conerete pavement. Several ereas of
crushed rock parking or storage were observed on the eastern
portion of the property. Gravelly sand was visible at the
4round surface on the western 100 to 200 feet of the site,
mmedietely adjacent tu the eurlington Northern right-of-way.
We understand that e significat amount of fill has been
placed on the western portion of the property by Burlington
Northern. This fill resulted from an off-site excavation for
 a railroad tunnel .
The ground surface across the property generaliy slopes gently
downward to the southwest. Based on the provided Topographic
Survey: it appears that the total chenge n ground surface
elevation between the northeast and southwest portions of the
property , is approximately 10 feet. The topog raphy in the
surrounding vicinity generally consists of gentle to maderate,
west-facing slopes . The area east of Broadway, which is
located about B00 feet west of the site, generally slopes down
tov+ard the Snohomish River .
With the exception of the Burlington Northern property, the
parcels surrounding the site are primarily developed with
` industrial or commercial structures . !
cBURFAG
The subsurface conditions were explored with nine test borings
et the aaproximate locations shown on the Site Exploretion
Plen , Plate 2. The field exploration program Nes besed upon
the proposed construction, site topography the scoceeSof
subsurface conditions revealed during drilling,
work outlined in our proposal , end time and udget
' constraints . •
The borings were drilled on June 17 and lfi, 1992, using a 'i
' truck-mounted hollov+semplesu9v+erertaken~atd SfootPeintervals
Peerson Drilling •
using a stendard penetration sampler. This 2-inch outside
diameter sptit spoon sampler is driven intu the soil Nith a
140-pound hammer fallig 30 inches . The number of blows
required co advance the sempler a given distae technical
indication of the soil density or consistency. A 9
engineer from our staff observed the drilling process , logged
the test borings , end obtained representative samples of the
soils enccuntered .
