Washington
60-02-20
fill on the site. Pumping of basal soil caused b winpaction of fill should be limited or controlled during
site development. The basal soil is moisture sensitive and will pump if worked while wet. If this
becomes a wide occurrence or problem on the site, GES, Inc. should be contacted to observe the
placement of fill, its compaction and response to it by the underlying soil and develop placement
recommendations based on existing conditions at the time of the work.
Due to the extent of the uncontrolled surficial fill found on the site during our site investigation, it may be
necessary to raise bearing soil grades to help maintain an uniform foundation footing depth around the
site. In areas where this is necessary GES, Inc. recommends utilizing Controlled Density Fill (CDF) to
raise base grades for bearing support of foundations. See section 4.6 of this report for specific foundation
design and placement recommendations for this site.
GES, Inc. recon3n3ends that backfill behind foundation walls consist only of imported, free draining
granular fill meeting the specifications outlined above. On -site materials may be used as foundation wall
backfill only if an alternative method of drainage is provided behind foundation walls or where
foundation elements are less than two-(2) feet in height.
4.4 Cuts and Excavations
Careful and prudent construction practices are advised when working around cuts, excavations and slopes
graded around this site. All cuts and excavations should conform to Washington Department of Labor
and Industries Standards for Construction Work, chapter 296-155 WAC part N.
Due to the amounts of uncontrolled fill found on the property, all excavations should be considered
marginal Excavations on this site shallower than four-(4) feet in total depth may be considered slightly
more stable than deeper excavations. 'These shallower excavations may stand with near vertical sidewalls
for limited periods of w 3e. All excavations over fiver-(4) feet in depth may need to be retained by
suitably desig3.ed rctai:;mg systems or digging boxes unless the side slopes are laid back to a minimum
I; I(11:1 slopes or shallower slope depending upon observed cut slope stability at the time of excavation.
ttt GES, Inc.
