GESGeotechnical and Environmental Services, Inc.
1'.O. 13ox 1031 Everett. Washington 98206 425/359-7634
April 17.2005
Mr. O.J. Spence
2720 - 210" St SW
Lynnwood, Washington 98036
RE: Bearing Soil/Foundation Preparation — Garage Area
NE Corner 35`t' St. and Nassau St., Everett, Wa.
City of Everett Project #REV104-017
Dear Mr. Spence;
04-08-10
(2cq H -C)G (
As requested, an engineering geologist from GES, Inc. visited the above referenced project site on April
11. 13 and 14, 2005 to view site conditions and confirm bearing soil/foundation preparation for the garage
area. This work was being done after the completion of tie main house foundation per the
recommendations contained in our letter dated March 1. 2005. cite _onstraints as outlined in the
referenced letter resulted in limited options for the placement of the footings for the garage foundation.
This will result in the garage footings having to be placed on both undisturbed natural soil and upon
varying amounts of foundation backfill. This will increase differential settlement potentials over normal
for the garage area.
Bearing walls for the garage foundation are along the north and south footings. The east and west
footings are for non -bearing walls. The north garage wall will be tied into the existing basement
foundation wall for the residence. The south garage wall will bear upon undisturbed natural soil. The
east and west footings will be placed upon a minimum two-(2) foot thick crushed rock mat and the% will
reinforced to help limit local settlement potentials. To further help stiffen up the east and west footings in
the immediate vicinity of the basement foundation, we recommend that they be tied into the basement
foundation wall with reinforcement steel. We further recommend that the garage floor slab be structural.
with the reinforcement being tied into the basement foundation wall to the north and the footing/stem wall
along the south foundation line.
