WAC 197-11-960 FOR AGENCY
SEPA ENVIRONMENTAL CHECKLIST USE ONLY
PUD NC. 1 OF SNOHOMISH COUNTY
Due to ihe recent media coverage there is
increasing public awareness of Electric and
Mapnetic Fields (EMF) associaled wfth electric
utflfty facilfties and questions regarding ihe
possible biological or health etfects of these
fields.
Electrtc and magnetic ifelds are generated by
electric substations, transmission lines and
distrtbution Iine. ! i addition, these fields are
produced by com.n electrical appliances and
house wiring. Both electric and magnetic fieids
are strongest near the source of the field and
decrease rapidiy as distance trom the source
tncreases. In the case oi this proposed switching
station, public exposure is minimized hy
piacement of the electrical equipment entirely
within the fenced site, and by Iocation and design
oi the overhead power Iines.
The fields anticipated at this facility are not
expected to add significantly to existing
• background levels in the vicinity.
1) Describe special emergency services that might be required.
None beyond normal locally available services,
such as medical emergency aid and fire
proiection.
2) Proposed measures to reduce or control environmental health
hazards, if any:
The station wiil be surrounded by a protective
tence with waring signs and tocked entry gates,
to prevent access to unauthorized persons.
Electrical protective devices, such as circuit
breakers, are installed on ail equipment to
reduce hazards irom faults, overloads, etc.
Regular inspections and maintenance are
periormed, which will help prevent hazardous
conditions.
A ground(ng system will be installed to protect
people irom shock in case of an electricai fault.
11
