PORT OF EVERETT <br />NORTH MARINA RED�VELOPMENT <br />SHALLOW SOIL VCP CLEANUP ACTION <br />3.02 COORDINATION AND SUPERVISION <br />SECTION 01560 <br />UTILITY PROTECTION <br />A. Provide notification to tlie applicable utility purveyor and the Port a minimum of 72 <br />hours prior to excavation, backfilling, or other work that is in the area uf, and could <br />potentially damage, any active utility. <br />B. The utility purveyor and the Port shall be allowed to have representatives present to <br />supervise the work during times of potential impact to any utility. If these <br />representatives identify work methods or conditions that potentially threaten the integrity <br />of the utilities, then upon request, Contractor shall halt the �vork. Work may resume <br />only upon approval from that representative. <br />C. Supervision by a representative of the utility purveyor or the Pori or in no way absolves <br />Contractor of'the requirements of these Specifications or any other poriion of the <br />Contract Documents. <br />D. Construction activities shall be conducted in a safe manner, in conformance with all <br />applicable fcderal, statc, and local safety requirements as well as the requirements of the <br />utility purvcyor and thc Port. <br />E. Promptly notify thc Pon and applicable utility purveyor in thc event an unknown utility <br />line is encountered or a line is encountered that conflicts with completion of the �vork. <br />Do not abandon, remove, relocate, or replace any utility line ���ithout prior approval from <br />the Pori and applicable utility purvcyor. <br />3.03 PROTECTION OF UTILITIES <br />A. Protect existing utility lincs, poles, wires, cables, transformers, riscrs, junction and meter <br />boxcs, vaults, and othcr utility appurtenances during the entire Contract period. <br />Establish a zone of protection around each surface feature located near Contractor's <br />work areas and dclineate each zonc with brighqy colored Ilags, signs, r.autionary tape, or <br />equivalent. Delineators shall Ue readily visible from the operator's position of motorized <br />equipmenl. To thc cxtent practical, establish equipment travel routes that are not in <br />dose proximity to surface features, and place physical baniers (e.g. concrete barriers, <br />ctc.) betwcen the utiliry feature and travel or �vork zones to prevent damage due to <br />anticipated construction acti��ities. Maintain adequate cover or install equivalent <br />protective measures to prevent damage to utilities from traffic loads and construction <br />activities. Provide adequate physical suppori of activc utilities within or neu the soil <br />excavation area. <br />B. Protection shall be maintained throughout the duration of the work. Pcriodically inspect <br />protection and reinstall, rcpair, or replace the protection as necessary. Protection shall <br />be modificd as needed to accommodate work in progress. Protection shall be <br />appropria;e to the anticipated construction activities and shall be installed and <br />100% Design Review Submittal <br />CIP No. 3-0-003-09 01560-2 Project No. PD-NM-2005-03 <br />
