Any rejected section of roadway shall be removed. No payment will be made for the rejected materials or the removal of the materials unless ihe Contractor requests that the rejected material be tested. If the contractor elects to have the rejected material tested, a minimum of three representative samples will be obtained and tested. Acceptance of rejected material will be based on confortnance with the statistical acceptance specification. If the CPF for the rejected material is less than 0.75, no payment will be made for the rejected materiai, and in addition, the cost of sampling and testing shall be bome by the Contractor. However, if the CPF is greater than or equal to 0.75, the cost of samoling and testing will be bome by the Contracting Agency and the HMA will be compensated at a CPF of 0.75. If rejection occurs after placement and the CPF is greater than 0.75, compensation for the rejected HMA will be at the calculated CPF with an addition of 25 percent of the unit contract price added for placement and removal costs. 3. A Partial Sublot. in addition to the preceding random acceptance sampling and testing, the Engineer may also isoiate from a nortnal sublot any material that is suspected of being defeclive in gradation or asphalt binder content. Such isolated material will not include an original sample loca6on. A minimum of three random samples of the suspect material will be obtained and tested. The material will lhen be evaluated tor price adjuslment in accorclance with the statistical evaivation section. This material will be considered a separate lot. An Entire Sublot. If an entire sublot is rejected in accordance with SecGon 1- 06.2, four additional random samples from this sublot will be obtained and the sublot evaluated as an independent lot with the originai test �esult included as a fiflh test with the new independent lot instead of with the originai lot. 5. A Lot in Progress. The Contractor shall shut down operations and shall not resume HMA placement until such time as the Project Engineer is satisfied that specification material can be produced: a. When the Composite Pay Factor (CPF) of a lot in progress drops below 1.00 and the Contractor is taking no corrective action, or b. When lhe Pay Factor (PF) for any constituent of a lot in progress drops below 0.95 and the Contractor is taking no corrective action, or c. When either the PFi for any constituent or the CPr of a lot in progress is less than 0.75. 6. An Entire Lot. An entire lot with a CPF of less than 0.75 will be rejected. The designated percentage reduction as defned in Seclion 1-06.2(2)B under Financial Incentive Paragraph 1, Item 3, shall be 25 percent. 5-04.3(9) Spreading and Finishing The HMA shall be laid upon an approved surface, spread, and struck off to the grade and elevation established. HMA pavers complying with Section 5-04.3(3) shall be used to distribute the HMA mixture. Unless otherwise directed by the Engineer or specified in the Plans or in the Page 20 of 50
