Material rejected before placement shall not be incorporated into <br />the pavement. Any rejected section of roadway shall be removed. <br />No payment will be made for the rejected materials or the removal of the <br />materials unless ihe Contractor requests that the rejected material be tested. If <br />the contractor elects to have the rejected material tested, a minimum of three <br />representative samples will be obtained and tested. Acceptance of rejected <br />material will be based on confortnance with the statistical acceptance <br />specification. If the CPF for the rejected material is less than 0.75, no payment <br />will be made for the rejected materiai, and in addition, the cost of sampling and <br />testing shall be bome by the Contractor. However, if the CPF is greater than or <br />equal to 0.75, the cost of samoling and testing will be bome by the Contracting <br />Agency and the HMA will be compensated at a CPF of 0.75. If rejection occurs <br />after placement and the CPF is greater than 0.75, compensation for the rejected <br />HMA will be at the calculated CPF with an addition of 25 percent of the unit <br />contract price added for placement and removal costs. <br />3. A Partial Sublot. in addition to the preceding random acceptance sampling and <br />testing, the Engineer may also isoiate from a nortnal sublot any material that is <br />suspected of being defeclive in gradation or asphalt binder content. Such <br />isolated material will not include an original sample loca6on. A minimum of three <br />random samples of the suspect material will be obtained and tested. The <br />material will lhen be evaluated tor price adjuslment in accorclance with the <br />statistical evaivation section. This material will be considered a separate lot. <br />An Entire Sublot. If an entire sublot is rejected in accordance with SecGon 1- <br />06.2, four additional random samples from this sublot will be obtained and the <br />sublot evaluated as an independent lot with the originai test �esult included as a <br />fiflh test with the new independent lot instead of with the originai lot. <br />5. A Lot in Progress. The Contractor shall shut down operations and shall not <br />resume HMA placement until such time as the Project Engineer is satisfied that <br />specification material can be produced: <br />a. When the Composite Pay Factor (CPF) of a lot in progress drops <br />below 1.00 and the Contractor is taking no corrective action, or <br />b. When lhe Pay Factor (PF) for any constituent of a lot in progress <br />drops below 0.95 and the Contractor is taking no corrective action, or <br />c. When either the PFi for any constituent or the CPr of a lot in <br />progress is less than 0.75. <br />6. An Entire Lot. An entire lot with a CPF of less than 0.75 will be rejected. The <br />designated percentage reduction as defned in Seclion 1-06.2(2)B under <br />Financial Incentive Paragraph 1, Item 3, shall be 25 percent. <br />5-04.3(9) Spreading and Finishing <br />The HMA shall be laid upon an approved surface, spread, and struck off to the grade and <br />elevation established.
