The actual capacatie
should be detertnined based on the dynanuc pile driving analysis discusaed bdow, ad the
actual driving resistance during pile installation.
Steel elements in contact with seawater will be subjected to an aggressive, coRosive
environment. As such, if steel pipe piles are used, the designers should incorporate
corrosion control measures. Such measures might include use of coatings, galvaniang, or
other metal alloys that are less susceptible to corrosion.
Lateral Capacities - We understand that vertical piles including the mooring piles will be
utilized to resist fateral loads. Behavior of laterally loaded 12-inch diameter open-end
steel pipe and precast octagonal concrete piles were evaluated using the computer
program LPII.E (Reese and Wang, 1989).
' 96028RF.DOC
HON6 WFSTdC ASSOCIATES, TNC.
