ATTACHMENT 2
ENVIRONMENTAL CHECKLIST - EXPLINATIONS
1.)a. Preliminary investigation and information-on-hand i.idicates an unstable
earth condition may exist, which would require construction to correct.
Soil sampling and analysis will be undertaken to determine the extent
that the site will require conditioning and preparation. Howeer, once
corrected, there will be no adverse impact generated by this project.
1.)b,c As indicated in the text of Attachment I, Corps of Engineers permit
application, a barge basin xcavation is proposed. The excavated spoil
is to be relocated as fill on other portions of the site for grad'tng and
leveling.
1.)e,f There is a possibility of erosion as grading occiirs.
2.)a,b Current planning ittends to minimize any sandblasting or painting on
the site. To the ertent practicable, all items to be assembled will be
finished to specifications by the manufacturer or vendor. However, there
may be some repair operations which would require these actions. Should
sandblasting and painting be necessary, we plan to use portable structures
for enclosure with the apnropriate air filtration systems. The other air
emissions wnuld be generated by '::ie construction equipment and motor vehicle
traffic. Dust suppression duriig site improvements will be provided as
aecesssry.
3.)b,c
e Fi h It is planned to maintain the existing surface water runoff, as the only
surface preparation will be crushed rock and gravel. An extended storm
drain system for the site will be tied into the existing storm drain.
Some module locations will be equipped with a sewer connectiong tior is-
posal of hydrostatic testing water, which will only be contaminated dith
mill scale and other debris which has been deposited in the piping system
. during construction. Any gas conditioning facility systems with traps
may be tested with glycol solution; this glycol, to the extent practicable,
will be recovered for further use; any residue wi11 remain in the equipment
until assembled in Alaska. The office and warehouse buildings will be
equipped with sewer systems. Chemical toilets will be used at each module
location for construction workers. There tiaill be no discharge to harbor
waters.
3.)e Therc is a possibility of a minor accidental discharge of iucl oil. rlso,
there is a possible escape of sediment during excavation of the barge
basin. The excavation will be conducted so as to minimie such escape.
;.)i The interpretation of this question by the applicant is that it pertains
to upstreaui locations that usurp water routinely used by down-stream
locations. The answer then is o.
-1-
