December ?, 1Pe7
John P. Schack
Norton Properties
102A West Marine View Drive
Everett, Washington 98201
Subject: 220 Nest Marine View Drive
Side Sever Connection
Dear Mr. Schack:
Further to previous discussions crncerninc the sever correction made tY your
site contractor, the following should help clarify the City's issues/concerns:
• Everett Munlcical Code, Chapter 1A, requires each builelnc to correct to a
separate side sever extendirn to the main.. The project's approved site
plan requires a sewer connection to be made to the 17" m:in located In
West Marine View Drive.
A portion of arprovec drawirp No. S-IA is enclosed for your reference.
• Your contractor connected to a private onnhole which serves the Public
poet Launch. This manhole was installed by the Port of Everett in 1978.
Affluent is ct.mped to this manhole which then gravity flows to the public
17" sever main. operation and maintenance has confirmed that the A" lire
h"tween the manhole and the 12" sever main contains a "belly", i.e. a
reverse flow section which restricts positive flew.
The affluent which enters the manhole from the boat launch is pulvertred
by the pu'p system. As a result, minimal maintenarce has tern required to
the Poe 's side sewer. It is our estimation that the line will experience
blockace should tie line receive normal gravity zfflvent fro- your
building. Shculd the ling became blocked, It would then he possible for
the !cat launch effluent to back up into your buildings.
Acceptable resolution of the above would be one of the options noted below.
1. Construct n separate 6" connection to the 12" sever main located
In West Marineview Drive per the approved plans.
2. l'perack. the "tellfed" sloe sewer to an S" P.V.C. line cmnstn:eted to
prover grade.
