6
PUBLIC WORKS
WhitIt rt
MEMORANDUM
TO: Clark Langstraat
FROM: Del Nestegard
DATE: May 17, 2006
SUBJECT: Surplus of Ten Hach 1720 C Turbidimeters
Referencing our telephone conversation today, this memo explains our planned
disposal of the above turbidimeters and associated spare parts. These turbidimeters
are about fifteen years old and about three generations behind the current model. We
removed them in 2005 and have no use for them. I checked Ebay and the only 1720 C
listed there had no bids. I also put postings on the websites of American Water Works
and Evergreen Rural Water of Washington offering them to public water systems in
Washington State. No water district contacted me. The turbidimeters have little or no
monetary value but are still useable. Sending them through the normal surplus
channels would probably condemn them to a landfill.
Today, in a conversation with a manager of Snohomish PUD#1 Water, I found a
publicly owned water district that could use these turbidimeters. PUD would put them on
each wellhead they manage. They have no budget for this and are not required to do so
by DOH regulations. They benefit only in getting baseline water quality information on
their ground water sources.
Please present this (the surplus of the ten Hach 1720 C turbidimeters to PUD#1) to
Council for their approval.
21
