EVERETT CITY COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM COVER SHEET )
PROJECT TITLE:
An Ordinance relating to Towing Consent COUNCIL BILL # 0807-340
Businesses and Tow Trucks, Action Originating Department Legal
amending section 9 of Ordinance Jul 26 First Reading Contact Person Ned Johnston
No. 1830-91 (EMC 5.70.090). Aug 2 Second Reading Phone Number 257-8727
Aug 9 Third Reading FOR AGENDA OF
Public Hearing
Initialed by:
Department Head 4`
CAA o►
Council President
Location Preceding Action Attachments Department(s) Approval
Amount Budgeted
Expenditure Required Account Number(s):
Budget Remaining
Additional Required
•
DETAILED SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The population center of the city has moved approximately two miles south since Ordinance No. 1830-91
(EMC chapter 5/70) was passed in 1991. More property has been annexed in the 19 annexations between
1991 and 2006, all in the southern part of the City. Persons whose motor vehicles become impounded in the
southern part of the city become inconvenienced in recovering their vehicles from the existing storage yards
because the yards are located in the northern part of the city. This requires a trip of as much as 10 miles to
the particular yard which performed the impound. This amendment allows the use of towing businesses and
storage yards within 2 miles of the city limits, making impounds in the southern part of the city more easily
accessible to the public. This amendment meets the requirements of state law which requires impounds be
taken to the nearest storage facility.
RECOMMENDATION (Exact action requested of Council): Adopt the Ordinance relating to Towing
Businesses and Tow Trucks amending section 9 of Ordinance No. 1830-91 (EMC 5.70.090).
10
