SCOPE OF SERVICES
The purpose of our services is to explore soil and groundwater conditions at the project site as
a basis for developing recommendations for design and construction of the proposed facility. Our
specific scope of services includes the following:
1. Gather and review readily available geotechnical and geologic data for the site.
2. Coordinate the field activities with the project team and obtain utility clearances.
3. Explore subsurface soil and groundwater conditions at the site by drilling two borings to
depths of 2G-%2 and 101-%2 feet.
4. Explore near surface soil conditions by excavating nine test pits with a tmckhoe excavator to
depths up to 17 feet.
5. Conduct laboratory testing on selected samples obtained from the explorations to characterize
index and engineering properties of the soils at the site.
G. Perform engineering analyses and evaluate data derived from the subsurface investigation and
laboratory testing program with respect to the items listed in scope item 7 below.
7. Prepare a report summarizing the results of our geotechnical engineering investigation
including descriptions of surface and subsurface conditions, a site plan showing exploration
locations and other pertinent features, summary exploration logs, and laboratory test results.
Present geotechnical engineering conclusions and recommendations pertaining to the
following items:
a. Presence and effect of existing till and/or other existing compressible soils;
b. Site preparation and earthwork, including considerations for wet weather construction
and remedial grading, as appropriate;
c. Fill placement and compaction, including assessing the feasibility for using "excess"
material for structural fill and recommendations for getting the best use out of the
"excess" materials;
d. Temporary cut slopes, and permanent cut and fill slopes, as appropriate;
e. Settlement under new fill, structure, and stockpile loads, including recommendations for
preloading, as appropriate;
f. Shallow foundation support for the buildings and conveyor systems, including
requirements for excavation and replacement of existing soft or loose soils in the footing
areas, minimum footing depth and width requirements, settlement estimates and
recommendations for lateral resistance;
g. Mat foundations including modulus of subgrade reaction values and allowable bearing
pressure;
It. Pile support for the more heavily loaded equipment, including feasible types, allowable
capacities, and construction considerations;
i. Seismic coefficients consistent with 1997 UBC code criteria;
j. Liquefaction evaluation including estimates of liquefaction induced ground movements
and impacts to structures and equipment.
k. Lateral earth pressure values for design of below grade walls, including active, at -rest,
passive, and seismic earth pressures;
G e o E n g i n e n r s 2 File 3101-020-00\072502
