The City helped Habitat for Humanity purchase the land with$40,000.00 of
Community Development Block Grant funds. Since the purchase a house has been rebuilt there and is
currently occupied by a low income family who are buying the structure. Habitat for Humanity and the City
worked out an agreement to meet Habitat's guidelines where the land would remain under Habitat ownership
for at least 20 years and they would lease the property to the low income home owner. They are now
requesting that the homeowner own the property instead of Habitat for Humanity. We would put a deed of
trust on the property which would be in effect for 20 years per the terms of the addendum.
RECOMMENDATION (Exact action requested of Council):
Authorize the Mayor to sign Addendum No. 1 to the Community Development Block Grant agreement for
Habitat for Humanity.
16
