' SUGGESTED MITIGATING MEASURFS
' Several measures are proposed to mitigate the potrntial rnnstruction and long•term
impacts to upland and wetland habitats. Construnion techniques and design features
' are includes in the project proposed to avoid and reduce impacts. A conceptual
swale enhancement plan to compensate for impacts also is proposed. These
mitigating measures are funher described below.
' Conslructian TecAniques
' The use of standard construction practices and erosion control features can reduce
the patential for erosion and subsequent sedimentation in North Creek. 7'hese
meazures rnuld inclodc conducting clearing and grading during the summer months,
' ercaing a sediment mntrol fena along all clearing lines, and providing temporary
detention and hay bales in low-lying drainage areas and open utiliry trcnches for
settling and trapping suspended sedimcnt. By implementing these measures,
' wnswction impacts can be climinated and/or rcduced.
Design Fealures
' Two specific design teatures have been incorporated into the overall project master
plan to redutt wetland impacts. These include the use of retaining walls along the
' south propeny line to limit the amout of fill to be placed in the solated scrub-
shrub wetland, and the use of a native growth buffer along the Nonh Creek stream
corridor wetland.
' 'Ihe Washington Department of Wildlife has suggested that a 25•[oot buffer be
maintained along the wetland boundary of the stream corridor. Due to ihe
' identified impaMs that are azsociated with the project, the project proponent has
eleMed to incrcase the buffer width to 40 feet for panial compensahon for habitat
impacts. The incroased buffer will preserve a mamrc semnd growth coniferous
forest of predominantly western red cedar. The buffer will provide additionai
habitat benefiu to the North Creck stream wrridor that otherwise would not be
maintained. Along the outer boundary of the proposed buffer,an enhanced drainage
' swale is proposed.
The retaining wall strunure proposed along the southern properry line will reduce
' the overall impaa ta the isalated wetland by over 1,200 square feet (15%). The
retaining wall also will allaw for the opportumty to rnnstruct an enhanced drainage
swale. 71e conceptual swale enhanczment plan is illustrated on the enclosed figure
and described in more detail below.
1
I

'
