Provide dimentions of hearth extension which conform to the conditions of listing <br />and manufacturer's installation instrucdons. Section 3102.5.2. <br />9. Masonry and concrete fireplaces and bazbecues shall comply with Section 3102.7. <br />✓10. Stairways shall have a minimum width of 36 inches. Handrails may project not morc <br />than 3 1/2 inches into each side of the required width. Stringers and other <br />projections such as trim are limited to 1 1/2 inches on each side. Section 1006.2. <br />✓11. Risers on stairways shall be not less ttian 4 inches nor exceed 8 inches, and runs <br />(treads) shall be not less than 9 inches. Section 1006.3. <br />�E�� 12.'The top of handrails are to be placed no less than 34 inches nor more than 38 inches <br />above the nosing of treads. Section 1006.9. <br />✓13. Handrails projecdng from a wall must have a space of not less than 1 1/2 inches <br />bctween the wall and the handrail. Section 1006.9. <br />�4. The handgrip portion of handrails shall be not less than 1 1/2 inches in cross <br />sectional dimension or the shape shall provide an equivalent gripping surface. The <br />aceptability of equivalent shapes will be determined by the building official. The <br />handgrip portion shall have a smooth surface with no sharpt comers. Section <br />1006.9. <br />Y15. Six feet-8 minimum headroom clearance for stairways is required. Section 1006.15. <br />Note that this is measured vertically from a plane tartgent to the stairway tread <br />nosing. <br />✓16. Handrails must have their ends returnecl or terminate in newel posts or safety <br />terminals. Setion 1006.9. <br />r�17. Guardrails for stairs, balconies and landings shall conform with Secdon 509. Note <br />that maximum clearance between intermediate rails is less than 4 inches and guudrail <br />height shall be not less than 42 inches. (Guazdrails at the sides of open stairways <br />may have a I�eight as permitted for handrails.) Section 509.2. <br />�' 18. Enclsoed usable space under stairs must be protected on the encicsed side as required <br />for 1-HR fire-resistive construction. Section 1006.12. See also Section 1009.6. <br />
