Jenuary 14, 2003
HWA Proiect No. 2002-146-21
such that surface runoff is directed away from struc and pavements and into swales
or otha controlled drainage devices.
In our opinion, erosion at the site during construction can be minimized by implementing
the recommendations presented in Section 4.53, Wet Weather Earthwork, and by
judicious use of straw bales, silt fences and plastic sheets. The erosion control devices
should be in place and remain in place throughout site preparation and consWction.
Potential problems associated with erosion may also be minimized by establishing
vegetation within disturbed areas immediately following grading operations. Vegetation
with deep penetrating roots is the preferred choice, since the roots trnd to maintnin the
surficial stability of slopes by mechanical effects and contribute to the drying of slopes by
evapotranspiration.
5.0 UNCERTAINTY AND LIMITATIONS
We have prepazed this report for the Brown and Caldwell design team for use in design of
a portion of this project. The conclusions and interpretations presented in this report
should not be conswed as a warranty of subsurface conditions at the site. Experience has
shown that soil and ground water conditions can vary significantly over small distances.
Inconsistent conditions car occur between explorations that may not be detec'red by a
geotechnical study. If, during future site operations, subsurface conditions are
encountered which vary appreciably from those described herein, HVA should be
notiHed for review of the recommendations of this repoR, and revision of such if
necessary.
Within the limitations of scope, schcdule and budget, HWA attempted to execute these
services in accordance Nith generally accepted professional principles and practices in the
fields of geotechnical engineering and enginee•ing geology at the time the repoR was
prepared. No wuranty, express or implied, is made. The scope of our work did not
include environmental azsessments or evaluations regazding the presence or absence of
wetlands or hazazdous or toxic substances in the soil, surface water, or ground water at
this site.
This firm does not practice or c:onsult in the field of safety engineering. We do not direct the
contractor's operations, aad cannot be responsible for the safety of personnel other than our
own on the site. As such, the safery of others is the responsibility of the contractor. The
contractor should notify the owner if any of the recommended actions presented herein are
considered unsafe.
We appreciate the opportunity of providing geotechnical services on this project. Should
you have any questions, or if we may be of further service, please do not hesitate to call.
20021J6 rcpon-final 18 HWA GEOSCIENCES INC.
