CI5C40E TESTING LGBOQATORY, INC.
April 2, 1979
Cert. No. 794-3G
Craig Bunney Construction
Page 2
located at the alley. Saturation has somewhat softened the building
area soils; however, placement of the rip-rap appears to stabilized
the majority of the area.
Recommendations:
Prposed duplex construction within the excavation could be adequately
performed, if the following recommendations for structural support
and stabilization are utilized.
Znitially, dewaterinq of the building site and drainage of the
excavation slopes should be performed. This can best be performed
through placement of an interceptor trench and drain near the base
of tF:e excavation slope. This drain should intercept most ground-
water entering the excavation. The drain should be constructed
such that the water is directed into the existing catch basin down-
slope. The drain should consist of six inches perforated pipe
imbedded in washed aggregate.
Slope stabilization should be performed. The existing easterly
slope sliould be laid back approximately 2:1 prior to placement of
a rockery installation. This installation should consist of ,
eighteen (18) inches of washed aqgreqate placed upon the slope
concurrent with the placement of large rockery rock, well keyed
into position. 7'he washed aggregate should be placed to connect
with the interceptor drain, such that water entering the system
will be di.rected downslope within the drain. The rockery retaining
walls should be limited to ten (10) feet in height, which creates
ttie necessity of terracing the slope to conform. A twenty (20)
foot horizontal aspect should be utilized, to continue to nominal
_ 2:1 slope gradient. Th.: northerly and southerly excavation slopes
should also be treated uaing the above procedure; however, the
nominal slope gradient could be reduced to l:l slope.
-1 •
