Two of tliese would
be t;ie fire escapes and the third is t:he ol.d freight elevator
opening. The reason for our concern :is the possibility of the
deliberate setting f fire to some of the many pieces of fvrniture
or other combustible material remaining in the building. If.the
fire were to burn undetected for any period of time, it could
easily involve the entire bui:ding and create a severe hazard to
firefighters attempting to contro7. thc fi.Te. There is also a
good possibility that transients o+ild Ue i,n, the building and
become trapped in the firc.
Nle wold strongly recommend that further unautho'ri.zcd ent*.y Ue
pi•evented by removing the lower sectians of the fire esc.apes and
wclding or balting a piece of boiler p]ate over the £relghx elevator
ooening. Other openings that have been used in the past appear to
be secured at this time. We woud. appreciate your notifying this
offic•e when the security measures have Ueen completed. ,
Very truly yours,
 =-
iValter H.
