The Carnegie Building is
also connected to the same line.
You havE advised us that this existing six-inch line is old and may not be
reliable. We have, accordingly, included revised sewer services for both the
Work Release and Carnegie Buildings in the pending contract for construction
of the new County Jail.
The Work Release Facility is now being remodeled, and is expected to be occupied
in June; construction of the new Jail has, however, been deferred by the State
pending resolution of conflicts between current monetary demands and the State's
debt ceiling. You have expressed concern that the existing six-inch sewer line
may prove to be unreliable for extended service, should construction of the Jail
be deferred for an extended period. You have, accordingly, asked that we consider
constructing revised sewer services for the Work Release Facility, i.e., a connec-
tion to the existing eight -inch sewer in the east -west alley --with the remodel of
the Work Release Facility.
As you are aware, site construction for the new Jail includes a substantial
expansion of the parking lot at the southwest corner of the block; wholesale
revisions to the north -south alley; and an overlay of the western half of the
east -west alley. Drainage revisions (see drawing A.2.5 of the preliminary
construction documents) include a new manhole at the intersection of the existing
