Plan Check No. 1328
Byron Backstrom
August 24, 1983
Page Five
19. The screen over the overflow scupper appears not to be practical. If both
drain and scupper are clogged a great deal of water may pond up on the roof.
Detail 7/A-4.2
20. Portions of otherwise sprinklered buildings which are not protected by auto-
matic sprinklers, should have Class II standpipes installed as required for un-
sprinklered buildings. Table 38-A, Footnote 4
21. The precast floor panels should be reviewed with respect to Research Report
PFC 2755 for adequate tendon cover to secure 2 hour fire resistive construction
for the typical floors and roof panels and 3 hour fire resistive construction for
floor level S-1.
22. Door S-203 that leads into the elevator machinery room should be 1 112 hour
fire protection assembly if it is a part of the elevator shaft enclosure. Table
17-A
23. The "W" well at the shaft enclosure is required to be a 2 hour wall. Two layers
of 5/8" of one >J de is insufficient.
24. hechancal Rooms should be separated from the I-3 occupancy by a 2 hour fire
resistive construction a,ith openings protected by 1 1/2 hour fire protection assem-
bly. Mechanical rooms 14335, 14432, M521, M522, and M523 should be separated. Wall
"0" does not comply for 2 hour unless alternate cel'.s are grouted. Table 5-B
25. The kitchen hood details should be provided. Penetration of a floor ceiling
system should be enclosed in a 2 hour fire resistive construction.
26. Glass doors and glazing immediatley adjacent to such doors should be approved
impact hazard glass. Section 5406(a)
COMMENTS ON EXITS
1. One of the required exits should be a smoke proof enclosure. The stairway with
the smoke -proof enclosure should be extended tothe roof surface. The door opening
at the roof should be 1 1/2 hour fire protection assembly. she penthouse over the
stair enclosure should be a minimum 1 hour noncombustible construction. None of the
3 stairs shown on the plans comply as a smoke -proof enclosure. Section 3309, and
3601(d)
*2. Two means of egress is required from every cell, multi -purpose room, and outdoor
recreation area. An adjoining room may be used provided such adjoining room is
accessory to the area served, and provides a direct means of egress to an exit cor-
ridor, exit stairway, exterior exit, exterior exit balcony, or exit passageway. In
every case, either both or at least one of the exits, must pass through more than
one adjoining room. Therefore, this does not comply. Section3302(e). See Sheets
A-3.4, A-3.5, A-3.6, A-3.7
