Plan Check No. 1328
Byron Backstrom
August 24, 1983
Page Nine
9. Security grillage at the roof:
a. A complete design and details should be furnished for the grillage
support and connections.
b. Grillage does not comply as a required 2 hour fire resistive roof and
fire retardant system. Table 17-A
10. The 4 1/2" slab on level S1 will not provide a 3 hour fire resistive occupancy
separation between the B-1 parking below and the I-3 above. Table 5B, Footnote 1
11. The foundation for all buildings where surface of the ground slopes more than
1:10 should be level or should be stepped, so that both top and bottom of such
foundation are level. Section 2907(c). See Details on Sheet S2.2
12. The flexural wall boundary steel anchorage into the foundation should be clar-
ified. See Sheet S3.1 through S3.6.
13. In the determination of building weights in the seismic calculations, the
following items apply:
a. The weight of all of the concrete shear walls should be included.
b. The east -west walls should be included.
c. The wall weight of the roof at 7.5' appears light. It should be more
closer to 10.51.
d. Any penthouse dead load and equipment load such as the cooling tower,
should be added. See Calculation Sheet L-1.
14. The story shear distribution should include a concentrated load at the top,
"Ft" unless calculations are furnished which establish a period of the building of
7/10 seconds or less. Section 2312(i)
15. At the 5th level, the column rebar tie spacing should be 14", not 16". See
Sheet S5.2, Section 2607.
16. Calculation Sheet W11C shows shear distribution for seismic loads on all east -
west participating walls:
a. I cannot seem to find any design analysis on how these values were deter-
mined in the submitted calculations.
b. I cannot seem to find any similar tabulation in the north -south direction.
c. All walls should be included in the distribution analysis. The north and
south exterior walls above the second level do not appear to have been in-
cluded.
