MEMORANDUM
Page 6
November 25, 1983
Item #5: Agree. Building security system is designed to operate as
indicated. See staff concept as part of item #2 above.
Item #6: Agree, intended to operate in this manner.
Item 07: Glazing areas were determined to meet required security
standards. We will review this entire area with the reviewing
authority to define/clarify the corridor system and make
required revisions. Because of security requirements, special
consideration may be required.
Item #8: Agree.
A. 6" cmu walls grouted full for security reasons. Door
aS1C4B(P) is it hr. rated. Door 'S104A(P) is not required
to be rated by location on property. S102A(P) and S113P
were rated at 20 min. but will be changed to 11 hr.
fire -rated assemblies. (Change order required.)
B. Stair enclosure #2 does not discharge into corridor 157.
See sheet A3.3.
C. This is a barrier gate to prevant people from accidently
continuing to the basement. As it in no way acts as a
door, we feel the gate as designed meets code require-
ments. See detail 15, sheet A8.2.
Item #9: Agree. Exit and directional signs are connected to normal and
emergency power sources and comply with National Electric Code
requirements.
Item #10: Agree. When the side coiling door is in use (non -business
hours), the occupant load of the public lobby will be less
than 10. Therefore, only one exit is required. The building
as designed complies.
Item #11: Agree. However, doors to inmate areas obviously must be
locked for security reasons. The occupant load for the public
lobby areas on the upper floors was calculated at less than
10. Therefore, only cne exit is required. Security staff
would be required to open the visiting room doors connecting
with the housing modules in the event of fire. Staff
available at each housing module.
Item #12: Security doors are required to swing out into corridors.
Non -security doors could be revised to swing into the rooms,
but even this is undesirable because inmates will have access
to exam, treatment, and dentist rooms. All doors at these
corridors are normally closed and locked for security reasons.
