The triangular chase is being enlarged to allow all the plumbing
piping, etc. to fit, which in turn reduces the clearance between the
bench and the water closet stool to V -8" clear.
We are aware that Section 511(a), 1982 UBC requires "Each hater closet
stool shall ... have a clear space in front of the water closet stool of
not less than 24 inches." Our revised plan would reduce that clearance
to 20 inches (36 inches to the wall). It is our opinion that this will
not result in any hardship whatsoever, due to the temporary time span
that any inmate will be held in these cells. It is not feasible, due to
space constraints, to increase the depth of these cells. Please review
this situation and, if the revised plan is acceptable to you, write us a
letter granting an exception to Sect -..on 511(a) for this particular case.
If this situation is unacceptable, please let us know as soon as possible
so that we can investigate other pleasures to assure compliance with the
Uniform Building Code requirements. Thank you very much for your at-
tention and assistance in this matter.
Sincerely,
WALI:ER McGOUGH FOLTZ LYERLA, P.S.
 to"'vv
Tirr,othy; J. 1te
Project Architect
TJW/mc/2A
cc: Mel Callender, Snohomish County
MUHT4
AAR 2)'; i84
CITY OF EVERETT
Inspection Dept.
Rmup ill,
Bruce M Walker, FAA Joan W McGough, FAIR Wafer W.
