3. Exterior wali protection is required, the assumed property line (between units}
should be shown. Fire resistive construction will be required to be maintained for the
supporting structure of the exterior walls.
Please note indicated conforming designations.
Type I FR Construction
1. Any masonry or concrete wall which supports more than 200 pounds per lineal foot
superimposed load, or any such wall supporting its own weight for more than one story
is defined as a bearing wall per UBC Section 224. Based on that definition, the
following comments apply:
a). The westem exterior wall supports its own weight for more than one story and
should therefore be shown as a minimum of 2 hour fire-resistive construction.
Agreed, please note revised designaHon.
b).The eastem exterior wall shouid be shown not to support more than 200 pounds
per lineai foot of superimposed load.
Agreed, please note that this wall is inNll only and is not required to support any
load other than iYs own weight.
We have decided for the sake of construcdon simplificetion to revise the
designation to a two hour rated wall.
Nodsontal Exlts
A horizontal exit is defined as an exit from one building into another building per
Section 10012. Area separation walis are used in this building to allow, in effect, iwice
the area that would otherwise ba permifte%i based on the type of construction chosen.
Each portion of a building separated by one or more area separation walis which
complies with Section 504.6 may be considered separate buildings as stated in
Section 504.6.1. Two buildings have therefore been created side-by-side on the same
property.
Either one of these buildings would be required to have complete exiting systems in
place, in this case; two exits at each floor as requ'*ed in Section 1003.1. These
buildings share the exiting system, however, by the use of horizontal exits, which
provides the concept of exitlng from one building to another to be employed.
Horizontal exits are therefore not solely derived from requirements based on occupant
load, quantiry of exits and travel distance, but also on the actual arrangement of exits
themselves.
, ,,:,, ,,,,
Ir, li1,11 VIICIf;1 Cl i, ii o i„r r:,,
 . ., .
". , ,, -,,,.,
IflfRl'i,1'ii; I'itRDGIIGRIiCDIIIIIaDif,l IRI;IIITCCTGRC III1GIlIRIRIGIGRIPNICDIG111I;DIGI
