planned use by facilitating identification of the BECU and the Safeway Store to its primary <br />vehicular customers on Rucker Avenue. This proposal enhances the aesthetics of the facility by <br />shifting signage from the lesser -used commercial street to Rucker Avenue, the dominant <br />commercial street in the area. <br />Conclusions: The proposed signs and logo promote identification of the company. They are <br />more in scale with the building size and setback than the signs permitted in the Zoning Code. <br />3. Whether the signs and their placement obstruct or interfere with any other signs or <br />property in the area or obstruct natural scenic views; <br />Findings: The signs will be placed on a wall or the existing freestanding signs. <br />Conclusions: If there are natural views, the views will not be obstructed by the additional <br />signs. <br />4. Whether the proposed plan is aesthetically superior to what could be installed under <br />existing criteria in this section. <br />Findings: Three freestanding signs up to 75 square feet are permitted by the zoning code. One <br />sign is permitted for every 300 feet of street frontage. Up to three signs totaling 225 square feet are <br />permitted. There are only two freestanding signs that are 72 square feet each. The two additional <br />signs on the existing freestanding signs will increase the amount to 78 square feet each. <br />Conclusions: 'rhe amount of proposed freestanding signage is 69 square feet less than allowed <br />by the zoning code. <br />DECISION: The Planning Director approves Tube Art's request to install two 24 square feet, BECU <br />signs and two 6 square feet freestanding signs, subject to the following conditions: <br />The new signs must receive appropriate sign permits. <br />The Planning Director's decision may be appealed. Appeal forms are available from the Planning <br />Department and must be submitted along with the required filing fee within 14 days of the date of this <br />decision.
