Throughout the rernainder of ihe site, the subsurface soiLs �vere <br />�� sandy silts to sands �vith occasional gravel. <br />Seepage �vas observed at the t�ottom of the excavation apparently com- <br />�� ing from the intertace bet�veen the fill material and soils in the bottom of the <br />trenches. <br />�. <br />DISCUSSION AND RECOMh4ENDATIOi�� <br />G2neral <br />Basr.d on the results of our field esploration and laboratory testing, <br />and engineeri�� analyses, it is our recommendation that the proposed build- <br />'` ing be supported on granular compacted fill witl� the design bearing value of <br />4000 pounds per squarefoot. <br />Foundations <br />Due to the relatively fir�n conditions of the soils beneatli the footing <br />excavaiions, it is our recommendatiun that the proposed structure be sup- <br />ported on sl�allow footings bearing on structural fill with the design bearing <br />value of 4000 psf and at tlie depths sliown on the building plans. <br />Estimated maximwn total settlements sl�ould be on tUe order of one- <br />half inch, with differential settlements less tl�an one-quarter inch. Footing <br />excavations should be inspected by the SoiLs Engineex• prior to placing concrete <br />to as;,ure that site conditio�ts are consistent «�ith our recommendations. <br />Structural Fill <br />Prior to placing fill, the excavations should be cleaned out of all <br />soft and wet soil. The water seepage shotild be controlled Ly placing a <br />layer of free draining gravel at the bottom of the trench, or with sump <br />lwmps, or a comUination of both. The fill areas should extend a minimwu <br />of 18 inches be}�ond all footing perimeters. I�'ill sliould consist of granular <br />matcrial containing less than 5%o fines passing the No. 200 sieve. Fill should <br />bc I)1�1CCCI 111 111131117U111 6-incl� lifts and compacted to at least 95`% of laboratory <br />ma.ximum diy density per ASTM: D-1557-70. The structural fi!1 sLould be <br />tested and approved b}� the Soils �ngiireer or his represenlative. <br />Slab-on-Grade <br />The proposed slab-on-�;rade should I�e sul�porled on a minimwu of <br />2 feet of stivcttn�al fill.
